The first bed - one year on May 10 2014
A year ago today I produced my first Spotted Hound test bed and I thought you might like to know how it's doing!
This lovely bed has a dense hollow fibre inner pillow and a cover made from Man's Best Friend cotton print fabric. It spends most of its time in our garden room and Chief Tester Oz uses it every single day for some serious snoozing and wildlife watching.
Here at Spotted Hound HQ we enjoy lots of wet and muddy walks, so the cover is washed at least once a week at 30 degrees to keep it fresh. We prefer to throw an old towel over the bed when Oz is damp rather than using a waterproof liner. I also vacuum the bed cover frequently to remove dog hair! The bed is shaken and plumped daily to maintain a comfortable depth of approximately three to four inches. Being flatter it provides better support than fluff filled beds which often end up lumpy and very thin in the centre where your pet needs the most support.
The bed cover is still in very good condition although the colour has faded very slightly (which I would expect with regular use and laundering). Since producing this bed I've experimented with various alternative fastenings and all covers now close using strong nylon zips rather than brass. And every cover has the same fabric on both sides, allowing both sides of the bed to be used.
So one year on my first pet bed is still going strong, unlike the high street beds Oz has had previously.
